There are huge old river gums trees alongside a pathway connecting the senior school at Guildford Grammar to the rowing sheds on the Swan River. The pathway is old, and well trodden, and separates the wetlands along the river from higher, drier ground. It is easy to imagine that it had at one time been an ancient route for the local Whadjuk Noongar people.
In 2014, some gums had been recently felled, to make way for the new school buildings. There were deep insect trails under the bark of the old felled trees.
